Acne

Acne is a very common condition that affects up to 85% of teenagers.

Acne includes comedones (white and black heads), pustules (pimples) and cysts. When severe or if picking occurs then this can result in scarring. Acne can occur not just on the face but also on the chest and back and rarely in the buttock area.

Acne usually clears by the early twenties but can persist longer. Treatment is often needed during this time and this can include topical creams, oral antibiotics and hormone therapies and also oral isotretinoin.

Rosacea

Rosacea is a common condition that affects the face, especially in fair-skinned people. It results in redness of the nose and cheeks with pimples. Flushing and blushing is also a feature and this is due to increased blood vessel reactivity. With time the redness becomes permanent and the nose tends to thicken and enlarge (called a rhinophyma). In some, the eyes can become involved and this can be serious.
