| Dermatologists are skin specialists and Fellows of the Australasian College of Dermatologists. They manage conditions of the skin, hair and nails.
Examples of conditions that dermatologists manage include:
- Psoriasis - a common skin disorder that involves red raised and scaly areas on the body. About 2-3% of the Australian population have psoriasis.
- Acne - is very common and seen most often in teens. It usually affects the face and trunk and can result in scarring. There are many treatment options including topical therapies, oral antibiotics, hormonal therapy (in women) and oral isotretinoin.
- Eczema - is a very itchy skin condition with redness, dryness and sometimes blisters. There are many types of eczema (dermatitis) including atopic dermatitis, allergic contact dermatitis and irritant contact dermatitis.
- Actinic Keratoses - these are also called sun spots or solar keratoses and are pre-cancerous lesions. They are small dry rough areas on the skin, usually the face. They are more common in the elderly, lighter skin types and people with an outdoor occupation or hobby.
- Skin Cancers - including squamous cell carcinoma, basal cell carcinoma, Bowen's disease, keratoacanthomas and melanomas.
- Nails - the nails can be affected by psoriasis, dermatitis and cancer. They can also become infected with bacteria and also fungus.

Dermatologists are also experts in anti-ageing treatment options and rejuvenation techniques.
