| Dr Elizabeth Dawes-Higgs is a Fellow of the Australasian College of Dermatologists. She has a degree in Medicine and Engineering and has been awarded a Doctor of Philosophy from the University of Sydney for her work on the Biomechanics of Skin. This research combined both her Engineering and Dermatology experience and involved in-vivo testing of skin elasticity along with complex finite element modelling of skin. In doing this she is a co-inventor of a device for examining the elastic properties of skin.
Dr Dawes-Higgs has published many journal articles, participated in conferences world wide in both Dermatology and Engineering and has a number of awards for her research. These include the Scheering-Plough Award for laboratory based research and the most outstanding scientific poster at an Annual Scientific Meeting of the Australasian College of Dermatologists. She has also been a lecturer at the University of New South Wales teaching undergraduate medical students and is actively involved in the training of dermatology registrars.
Dr Dawes-Higgs currently works in private practice at Northern Sydney Dermatology in Northbridge. She is also a Visiting Medical Officer at Concord Repatriation General Hospital and The Mater Hospital, Crows Nest. Dr Dawes-Higgs has special interests in skin elasticity and common skin complaints such as acne, psoriasis and skin cancer management, including photodynamic therapy. Dr Dawes-Higgs also performs vascular laser therapy and pigment reduction laser along with anti-wrinkle treatments.
